Property Advert of the Week: St Ives Quarter Acre Blocks (1967)

In 1967, all you needed was a fifty pound ($100) deposit to own a quarter of an acre of land at St Ives. The blocks of land were priced from just under eighteen hundred pounds ($3600). According to the RBA Inflation Calculator, that would equate to just under $43 000 in today's money.

  1. Fabulous old advertisement. My parents bought a block of land in St Ives in 1972 for $16,000. I am curious to know why, in 1967, the price was advertised in pounds when we had converted to decimal currency in Feb 1966.

    1. There was a two year period for businesses to transition over from advertising in pounds and pence to dollars and cents.
