Property Advert of the Week: Avoca by Lend Lease (1968)

This week we focus on Lend Lease. In 1968 they were promoting the Avoca as one of their twelve model homes. The $7685 price for construction would equate to just under $87 000 today according to the RBA Inflation Calculator.

  1. The 'Avoca' home pictured is still standing at 83 Felton Rd Carlingford - not too badly disfigured by the years. I have discovered many more examples in Bradbury (near Campbelltown) as well as South Penrith. As the advertisement says, Lend Lease had 10 homes on display for under 10K, but they had up to 18 on display at any one time. Just sneaking in under the 10K mark at the time of this advertisement was the RAIA award winning 'Casa Blanca', and the homes available for over $10K included the iconic 'Beachcomber', the luxurious 4-bedroom 'La Salle' and the 2-storey/5-bedroom 'Castlereagh'

    1. The home in this ad was owned by my Aunt and Uncle from 1984 to 1993. When they moved in the house was largely original - what was unusual small size of the formal dining area. The master bedroom was at the front of the property with theww smaller bedrooms facing onto the backyard. During the period of my Aunt and Uncles ownership the flyscreen enclosed patio was removed from the back yard and an extension put on along with the conversion of the Garage to a Bedroom/Study area. The backyard was particularly small from memory.
