Property Advert of the Week: The Comenarra, Turramurra (1965)

Back in 2014, I posted a newspaper advertisement dated from 1964 for The Comenarra estate at Turramurra on the North Shore. One year later (1965), 22 new lots were on offer for a £185 ($370) deposit.

1998: Sydney CBD-Parramatta Fast Train Proposal

In 1998, Lend Lease proposed to build a fast train line that would have enabled commuters to travel from the Sydney CBD to Parramatta in only 12 minutes. This would be nearly 50 % faster than the proposed Western Sydney metro connecting the two centres or would shave at least fifteen minutes off a standard rail trip. It also proposed that the line would also go through to Penrith. For those commuting from Penrith to Sydney, travel time would be reduced by two thirds to just 22 minutes.

In addition, it was planned that either a light rail line or monorail line would link Parramatta with Castle Hill in just ten minutes.

While it did not eventuate, the issue of fast rail has lasted through to the present day. Note that there is a possible option of connecting the Western Sydney Airport with Parramatta and the Sydney CBD. It is not off the table altogether.

Property Advert of the Week: Lend Lease Housing Village Advertisement (1962)

Here is a property advertisement straight out of a local rag (St George and Sutherland Shire Leader) from 1962. Though the demonstration village was out at Carlingford, locals in Sydney's south were given an invitation to check out the homes that they could build, including the three-bedroom Beachcomber.

Property Advert of the Week: Avoca by Lend Lease (1968)

This week we focus on Lend Lease. In 1968 they were promoting the Avoca as one of their twelve model homes. The $7685 price for construction would equate to just under $87 000 today according to the RBA Inflation Calculator.
