Remember This? State Rail Off Peak Rail Fares (1986)
Below is a 1986 newspaper advertisement from State Rail promoting off-peak rail fares across the suburban and outer suburban (intercity) network. Clever marketing was applied. They used the platypus featured on the 20-cent coin to promote the savings by claiming that one would "save a platypus". With off-peak fares in 1986, commuters were promised at least a 20-cent saving on their fares, increasing based on distance travelled, and one could save even more animals by taking advantage of fares, referring to other animals featured on our coins.

1988: The arrival of Tangara Trains - More advertisements
In 2018, I wrote an entry on the arrival of Tangara Trains on Sydney's rail network as it had been thirty years since they commenced service. It is the most read entry to date.
I published a few of the newspaper advertisements in that entry, but have since found a few other newspaper advertisements worth sharing.
The first two are different versions of How far can a train go in 3 years?

Remember This? The Sydney System Rail Advertisement (1987)
Remember This? is back for the next few weeks but I am going to focus primarily on old advertisements that have screened on Sydney Television.
There have been a number of individuals who have gone through their old VCR's and Betamax videos and have uploaded advertisements from TV shows that they would have recorded. The collections available get bigger.
I have downloaded the videos from Youtube and viewed them for curiosity and have been bought memories back.
This week, I am going to share an advertisement that State Rail screened in 1987 focusing on the Sydney Rail Network. It was known as The Sydney System. Going by the information that I had, this was screened on Channel 7 on March 3, 1987.
You'll notice that the commercial was filmed on the Illawarra and Eastern Suburbs Rail lines e.g. scenes of a train crossing the Como Bridge feature just after the start of the advertisement. I also saw footage from the drivers cab approaching Rockdale Station.
