Property Advert of the Week: Eastlakes Home Units Ad (1966)

Below is a newspaper advertisement from 1966. Parkes Developments was promoting apartments for sale at Eastlakes. However, it doesn't go into specifics. Deposits started at $1000, and if you wanted more information, "enquire at Parkes Caravan".

Property Advert of the Week: Hitter Homes Advertisement (1966)

Below is a 1966 newspaper advertisement promoting new estates at Panania, Fairfield West, Merrylands, and Cabramatta. Three-bedroom homes were on offer from £4300 ($8600). According to the RBA Inflation Calculator, that would be equivalent to spending $134,000 in 2024.

Property Advert of the Week: Wahroonga Land Release (1966)

Below is a 1966 newspaper advertisement for a land release in the vicinity of Roland Avenue, Wahroonga. The blocks were on offer from $2790 (£1395), which would be equivalent to paying around $ 43,500 today (RBA Inflation Calculator).

Remember This? 2SM Newspaper Advertisement (1966)

In the last entry of our current run of Remember This? comprises of a 1966 newspaper advertisement for radio station 2SM.

The weekday schedule was as follows:
  • Phil Haldeman (5 am to 9 am)
  • John Mahon (9 am to 1 pm)
  • "Big" Sam Kronia (1 pm to 4 pm)
  • Tony Murphy (4 pm to 7 pm)
  • Mike Walsh (7pm to 10 pm)
  • Dal Myles (10 pm - Midnight)
Haldeman was in his role alongside that of narrating newsreels for Cinesound. 

The most notable name on the lineup is Mike Walsh, whom would go onto a successful TV career during the 1970s and 1980s as the host of the Mike Walsh Show which ran on Channel Nine from 1973 to 1985.

Dal Myles and Tony Murphy also would eventually find their way onto TV Screens. Older readers may remember that Myles presented Ten Eyewitness News Nightcast alongside evening news updates during the 1980s at channel ten. Tony Murphy would succeed Jimmy Hannan as host of Saturday Date on TCN9 and cohosted Good Morning Australia alongside Kerri-Anne Kennerely and Candid Camera Australia on Channel Ten at the end of the 1980s and early 1990s.

Property Advert of the Week: Hawkesbury Waterfonts (1966)

Below is a newspaper advertisement from 1966 promoting the sale of 22 lots on the Hawkesbury River. Based on the map and Google Maps, I believe the lots featured in the advertisement are in Holmes Drive, Cumberland Reach

The lots themselves do not reach the waterfront, as there is a section of sealed road that runs at the rear of the properties, which can be accessed by the public, while an unsealed dirt road goes behind the remaining properties.

Property Advert of the Week: Kingswood Heights Estate, Cambridge Park (1966)

Below is a newspaper advertisement from 1966 to promote the Kingswood Heights Estate at Cambridge Park. Housing lots were on offer for as low as £650 ($1300). According to the RBA Inflation Calculator, this was equivalent to $19 187 today.

Below is a 1966 newspaper advertisement by Albert & Co promoting house and land packages on offer from Gold Star Homes in the Fairfield and Liverpool regions.

Deposits on your home and block began from £445 ($890) equating to around $13 135 today (RBA Inflation Calculator).

Property Advert of the Week: The Tor, Elizabeth Bay (1966)

Below is a 1966 newspaper advertisement for The Tor at Elizabeth Bay. In a previously posted advertisement, apartments were advertised for £4450 ($8900) but had now increased to £4750 ($9500). According to the RBA Inflation Calculator, the price set the buyer back $140 000 in today's money.

Property Advert of the Week: Land Release - Lentara Circuit, Georges Hall (1966)

In 1966, John L. Nichols was undertaking a "Sensational First Release" of housing sites at Georges Hall. Based on the map, the street featured was Lentara Circuit.

Property Advert of the Week: Jacaranda Estate, Peakhurst (1966)

Below is a 1966 newspaper advertisement for the Jacaranda Estate at Peakhurst. Based on maps, the 12 sewered lots were located in David Place (access via Ogilvy Street). No price figure was provided for the blocks on offer, but for an additional £4750 ($9500), a home could be built on the block.

Property Advert of the Week: Wimbeldon Estate, Greystanes (1966)

Below is a 1966 newspaper advertisement promoting the Wimbeldon Estate at Greystanes, though it is advertised as Merrylands. Going by the map featured in the advertisement, the estate encompasses Bromwich Street, Hopman Street (part of) and Sedgman Street. The school featured in the map is Greystanes Public School.

Property Advert of the Week: Northmead Land Release (1966)

Our Property Advert of the Week is from 1966. Parkes Developments were promoting a land release at Northmead. Published two days before the changeover to decimal currency, a £25 deposit secured your block of land.

Going by the map, the lots encompassed an area bounded by Reillys Road and Barnetts Road, incorporating Kelvin Grove and Stephenson Street.

Below is a newspaper advertisement promoting "Twenty-One" at 21 Harrison Street, Cremorne dating from 1966. It was advertised as being located in Neutral Bay given that its location is two blocks from the main shopping strip on Miltary Road.
