Property Advert of the Week: Oakdale Estate, Old Toongabbie (1965)

Below is a 1965 newspaper advertisement promoting the Oakdale Estate at Old Toongabbie. The estate, located along Old Windsor Road near Fitzwilliam Road, offered house-and-land packages from £4850 ($9700). According to the RBA Inflation Calculator, this was equivalent to spending around $165,150 today.

Property Advert of the Week: AVJennings Cashback Offer (2001)

Below is a 2001 newspaper advertisement by AVJennings in conjunction with Long Homes. Those who purchased a model home or a house-and-land package would receive $7000 cashback, and first-home buyers would receive an additional $7000, bringing the total to $14000. The offer was available at their new estates in Beaumont Hills (then part of Kellyville), Kellyville, Glenwood, Plumpton, Prestons and Quakers Hill. Merrivale Estate (Kellyville) would later be incorporated into Kellyville Ridge in 2007.

Below is a 1969 newspaper advertisement from Gavan and Shallala promoting house and land packages at Revesby. Based on the map, the estate featured was in Beaconsfield Street and Wall Avenue. As for the house (illustration) featured in the advertisement, it is located at 133 Beaconsfield Street.

Property Advert of the Week: Neeta Homes (1992)

Below is a 1992 newspaper advertisement by Neeta Homes. Not long after this advertisement was published, the company went into liquidation (May 1992). Buyers only needed $1000 for an initial deposit, while the total price of a house and land package ranged from $ 99,500 to $ 149,000. House and land packages were available in Liverpool, Blacktown, Campbelltown, Penrith, and Camden regions, along with Bligh Park and the Central Coast.

Below is a 1969 newspaper advertisement from Hitter Homes promoting a new estate at Wentworthville, along with house and land packages. It promotes "luxury homes" at Bass Hill, but cannot confirm if they are house and land packages or display homes. According to the RBA Inflation Calculator, house and land packages equate to spending as little as $ 163,000 in today's money.

Property Advert of the Week: "The Big 3 in New Homes" (1988)

In 1988, Landcom, Hooker Housing Group and the St George Building Society (Now St George Bank)  teamed up to provide a house and land package. Landcom provided the block, Hooker Housing Group would build the home and the St George Building Society provided the loan. Only 200 homes were on offer, priced from $69,950 to $109,500.

Property Advert of the Week: Penrith Land Release (1969)

Below is a 1969 newspaper advertisement for a house and land package on offer at Penrith. The area is currently in South Penrith and would encompass the neighbourhood that is home to the Jamison Hotel and close to Jamison Park.

The package included a 3-bedroom brick veneer home on a block of land. According to the RBA Inflation Calculator, this was equivalent to spending $155,000 in today's money, which is very good value for money.

Real Estate Advert of the Week: Pioneer Homes Australia - Sydney Advertisement (1998)

Below is a 1998 newspaper advertisement for Pioneer Homes Australia promoting house and land packages in New South Wales. Sydney locations included Narellan, Glenmore Park and Quakers Hill.

Hazel Hawke was the marketing ambassador. You may remember her from television commercials from around this time promoting the company. I recall the line "Rent money is dead money" in the television commercials as mentioned in the newspaper advertisement.

Repayments started at $199 per week.

Below is a 1966 newspaper advertisement promoting new estates at Panania, Fairfield West, Merrylands, and Cabramatta. Three-bedroom homes were on offer from £4300 ($8600). According to the RBA Inflation Calculator, that would be equivalent to spending $134,000 in 2024.

The packages start from $259 000 if opting for a package in the Central Coast and Illawarra regions and from $279 000 in the Sydney metropolitan area, with the cheapest packages in the Penrith region.

In 1967, three-bedroom homes were for sale at Seven Hills for a deposit of $600 (£300). According to the map, the homes were located in an area to the east of Seven Hills Road, in and around Lucretia Road.
