Below is a 1970 newspaper advertisement promoting two projects by Stocks and Holdings Projects that was published in The Sun.

Property Advert of the Week: Stock & Holdings double page spread (1968)

This week, I am posting a double-page spread from Stocks & Holdings Projects, which appeared in The Sun on August 2, 1968. The double-page spread features three advertisements:

• Ocean View Units (Maroubra Beach) - With spectacular views of the ocean, Maroubra Beach, Sydney CBD and the Blue Mountains.
• Woodlyne Park Estate (Baulkham Hills)
• The Pines, Manly

Remember This? When The Beach Boys Rocked Narrabeen (1992)

During their 1992 tour of Australia, The Beach Boys did one concert in Sydney. Instead of opting for venues such as the Sydney Entertainment Centre, Sydney Football Stadium and the Sydney Cricket Ground, they performed at North Narrabeen Reserve, North Narrabeen (home to Rat Park and Warringah Rugby Club).

The venue was within walking distance of Narrabeen Beach. Narrabeen is referenced in the Beach Boys’ 1963 hit “Surfin’ U.S.A.” as “Australia’s Narrabeen,” establishing a direct geographic connection between the 1992 concert site and the song’s roll call of surf locations.

20, 000 people attended the concert on Saturday, November 28 1992. Lead singer Brian Wilson did not perform, but John Stamos (Full House) was a guest drummer, as reported by The Sun Herald (November 29 1992), who was a "hit" with the "teenage girls".

Property Advert of the Week: Bellagio, Collaroy (2002)

In 2002, apartments in Bellagio (Bellagio by the Sea) at Collaroy were on sale for $395,000. The complex today comprises of private and serviced apartments. I would have to dispute that even in 2002, it was impossible to drive to Manly in 10 minutes and reach the city in twenty minutes.

2001: When Queenscliff lost its suburb status

In 2001, residents of Queenscliff were outraged when their suburb (which had been a locality since 1984) was assigned as an urban place within Harbord, meaning that those who resided there were officially residents of Harbord.

It was formally regazetted as a suburb on July 12, 2002, by the NSW Geographical Names Board, which was welcomed by residents.

Property Advert of the Week: "San Michelle" at Queenscliff (1970)

Below is a 1971 newspaper advertisement promoting the sales of units in a two-building complex at Queenscliff - "San Michelle", located at 63 Crown Road. Each building has six units spread over three floors, with an average of two units per floor. 

Going by the RBA Inflation Calculator, a unit would range in the equivalent of today's money from approximately $ 266,700 to $ 481,200.

Property Advert of the Week: Killarney Heights Land Release (1964)

Below is a 1964 newspaper advertisement promoting the sale of 20 home sites in Greystones Road, Killarney Heights by the NSW Department of Lands. The sites were to be auctioned with reserve prices ranging from £1150 to £2150 ($2300 to $4300).

Property Advert of the Week: Forestville Land Release (1964)

Below is a 1964 newspaper advertisement promoting homesites at the Glenview Estate in Forestville. Prices ranged from £1,475 ($2950) to £1895 ($3790).

Property Advert of the Week: Avalon Land Release (1962)

Below is a newspaper advertisement promoting a land release at Avalon in 1962. Blocks were on offer from £1000 ($2000).

Property Advert of the Week: Stewart Upton Homes - French's Forest/Belrose (1971)

Below is a 1971 newspaper advertisement by Stewart Upton Homes promoting the sale of new four and five-bedroom homes in French's Forest and Belrose. One of the homes featured was on offer for $36 500, and the other for $38 500.

Property Advert of the Week: Watermark Manly Cove (1995)

This week, we head over to Manly. 5-7 Victoria Parade had two luxurious penthouses on offer for either $1.15 million or $1.25 million in 1995.

The apartments are located two blocks from The Corso and Manly Wharf . Beaches were short stroll away on either side with views of Manly Cove and the Sydney CBD on offer. 

One of the two apartments advertised was reportedly sold for $5.5 million last year. 

Property Advert of the Week: 'Castaways', Newport (1971)

Below is a 1971 newspaper advertisement promoting the sale of apartments in the "Castaways" complex at 399 Barrenjoey Road, Newport.

It is a well located complex, with shops metres away and Newport Beach right across the road. The Norfolk Pines would have since blocked the views even further but still provide a great backdrop.

Apartments were priced from $15 500 or equivalent to approximately $178 000 in todays money according to the RBA Inflation Calculator.
